To The Rescue
Whether they are powering a Black Hawk or a Super Cobra, GE's T700 helicopter engines are widely recognized as having the highest reliability and performance of any engine in its class.
One of the best examples is the T700-powered Cormorant, a variant of the EH101, which recently entered service as the Canadian Defence Forces' Search and Rescue helicopter.
The EH101 helicopter, developed by EH Industries Ltd., a joint venture of GKN Westland Helicopters Ltd. of the United Kingdom and Agusta S.p.A. of Italy is powered by two T700 engines and can easily operate from helidecks on ships carrying 12 stretchers.
The T700-powered Cormorant is fitted with 30 seats, but in the event of an emergency, as many as 40 can be accommodated on board. These overall capabilities make it an ideal aircraft for Canada's demanding missions, geography and climate.
In addition to serving in Canada, the Italian Navy and the Tokyo Metropolitan Police have selected CT7/T700 engines to power their EH101 helicopters.
GE and Avio SpA, with Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation (AIDC) of Taiwan as a risk- and revenue-sharing participant, are also co-producing the civil variant of the T700/T6E1, the CT7-8. The newest, most powerful addition to the T700/CT7 family, the CT7-8 is the powerplant for the Sikorsky H-92 advanced medium helicopter. The CT7-8 was certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2000.
