GEnx Takes to the Air

February 22nd, 2007, marked another success in GE's flight test history as the new GEnx engine took flight for the first time (full press release) on board GE's 747-100 flying test bed in Victorville, CA.

The engine completed more than four hours of flawless in-flight operation, attaining the following first flight goals:

  • Demonstrating aircraft systems and instrumentation functionality
  • Establishing the engine performance baseline

The 747-100 was commanded by Captain Phil Schultz and First Officer Gary Possert. Together, they have more than 80 years of overall flight experience, including 25 years in flight test.
