Engine Overview
Volvo Aero Corporation developed the RM12 from GE's highly successful F404 turbofan engine to power the Saab/BAE Systems Gripen, a multi-role attack and reconnaissance aircraft.
The RM12-powered Gripen serves the Swedish, South African and Czech Republic Air Forces.
The RM12 provides the Gripen with reliable power and outstanding operational and handling characteristics. Its simple, modular design is reliable and easy to maintain - key to high readiness and low cost of ownership. The RM12's single-engine features include a Full Authority Digital Electronic Control (FADEC) with hydromechanical backup and a redundant ignition system.
With no throttle restrictions, stall-free operation, fast acceleration and deceleration and consistent afterburner lights, the RM12 is a fighter pilot's engine.
