Engine Overview
The LV100-5 is being developed by a 50/50 partnership of GE and Honeywell. Together the two companies bring an unprecedented level of know-how and experience to the engine program. The LV100 draws heavily on 20 years of Honeywell field experience with its AGT1500 turbine powering the M1 family of tanks and on GE's two decades of battlefield experience with its T700 turboshaft powering the U.S. Army's Black Hawk and Apache helicopters.
The 1,500 shaft horsepower (SHP) class LV100-5 is a second generation, state-of-the-art gas turbine engine designed specifically for heavy ground vehicle applications. Currently under development to power the U.S. Army's M1 Abrams tank, the engine design has been established and the first engine build completed ahead of schedule (May 2002).
