ERLANGER, Kentucky -- GE Aviation's Erlanger Distribution Center received the prestigious Voluntary Protection Partnership (VPP) STAR Award during a ceremony today for maintaining its injury and illness rates at or below the national average. Erlanger is the first warehouse in Kentucky to be approved as a VPP STAR site and one of two Northern Kentucky businesses to receive the award (L'Oreal Manufacturing in Florence has this award).
VPP of Kentucky is a program offered by the Division of Education and Training to recognize and promote exemplary safety and health performance in the workplace.
"It's my pleasure to join all of you in celebrating this milestone -- a testament to Aviation's ongoing commitment to proactive safety programs," said Scott Miller, plant leader. "The VPP STAR award demonstrates strong cooperation between management, employees and Kentucky's Occupational Safety and Health Administration."
The Erlanger Distribution Center is one of only 11 VPP STAR sites in the state of Kentucky. Of those 11, three are operated by GE, including GE Aviation in Madisonville and the Lexington Lamp Plant. In addition, the Erlanger site boasts an accident rate 60 percent below the national average.
At the conclusion of the celebration, Joe Giles, Kentucky VPP program administrator, and Scott Miller, raised the VPP STAR flag with the help of all of the day's special guests.
