Linzhi, Tibet: Access on Top of the World

The conditions at the newly-constructed Linzhi Airport (also known as Nyingchi) and the surrounding region presented a significant challenge to the to the Air China/Naverus team. At an elevation of 9,670 feet, the airport could not be navigated properly using ground-based navigation aids.

Problem

Solution

  • Naverus RNP network: 800 nm of tracks covering approximately 16,100 square miles of Tibetan terrain
  • Linzhi RNP procedures: 108 waypoints
  • Project time from start of design to test: 72 days
