GE Aviation’s sustained $1B+ annual investment in aviation innovation has spurred us to develop leading-edge technologies at our Electrical Power Integration Centre (EPIC) in Cheltenham, England, and a state-of-the-art Electrical Power Integrated System Center (EPISCenter) in Dayton, Ohio. Our engineers collaborate with top researchers at the University of Dayton and have access to the breakthrough innovations of GE Global Research.

Enabling rapid, full system integration

Our Virtual Aircraft Integration System (VAIS) enables real-time simulation for simultaneous testing of multiple aircraft systems, while dedicated network connections among GE facilities enable us to link system and engine tests. This rapid development and testing leads to equipment and wiring reductions, thereby improving fuel burn and reducing operating costs and SFC.


Military Smart Power

Delivering innovative solutions for civil and military applications

We’re proud to provide the Electrical Load Management System (ELMS), Backup Generator and Backup Converter for the Boeing 777X. Slated to begin testing in 2016, the power generation system will generate twice the power generation of the current 777 system, while the ELMS will control 30% more power in the same size envelope.

To meet the needs of next-generation fighter aircraft, we’re developing modular solutions for ±270Vdc architectures and the capability to seamlessly transition from engine start to power generation. We’re refining our application of silicon carbide (SiC) material—which provides twice the power density of current technology—to create significant improvements in efficiency and system integrity.

Other applications supported include the Boeing Apache, Super Hornet and 777 aircraft; the Lockheed Martin C130J and F35; and the Gulfstream 650.
