Air Mauritius Orders GE Engines to Power New Fleet

EVENDALE, Ohio -- January 3, 2007 -- Air Mauritius has ordered GE's CF6-80E1 engines to power its new fleet of Airbus A330-200 aircraft. 



The airline has ordered two firm A330-200 aircraft and has one on option and one additional on purchase right. The catalogue value of the firm engine order is about $60 million (USD). 



"The selection of the CF6-80E1A4/B engines has been reached after considering several factors," stated Indradev Buton, Chief Marketing Executive for Air Mauritius. "This airframe and engine combination will enable Air Mauritius to achieve its performance objective on the route network where the A330-200 fleet will be deployed." 



"GE and Air Mauritius have developed a good relationship over the years as the carrier operated CF6-80C2 engines on its Boeing 767 fleet," said Roger Seager, vice president of Sales for GE Aviation. "The CF6-80E1 engine will provide the thrust flexibility the airlines needs as it works to expand its network." 



The flag carrier for Mauritius, Air Mauritius has been operating for close to 40 years. The airline has a widespread route network covering Europe, Asia, Australia, Africa and Indian Ocean destinations. It will be the first sub-Saharan African airline to take delivery of A330-200 with the CF6-80E1A4/B engines. 



The GE's CF6 engine family is one of the workhorse jet engines of the airline industry. For 35 years, it has been among the most utilized and reliable jet engines powering more than 10 models of wide-body aircraft and has flown more hours than any other high-bypass engine family. With more than 220 CF6 customers worldwide and more than 5,600 engines delivered to date, the CF6 engine has provided reliable service for almost 300 million flight hours. The CF6-80E1 engine was developed specifically for the A330 and offers customers significant savings on fuel burn and maintenance costs.
