Air One Selects GE Engines To Power Its Airbus A330 Fleet

August 04, 2008

EVENDALE, Ohio -- Air One has selected GE's CF6-80E1 engines to power its new 12 firm and eight option Airbus A330 aircraft. The firm engine order is valued at more than $480 million list price. Deliveries will begin in 2010.

Air One has also signed a 15-year OnPointSM solution agreement for the maintenance and overhaul of its new CF6-80E1 engines as well as its leased CF6-80E1-powered A330 aircraft. The OnPoint solution agreement is valued at more than $250 million over the life of the contract.

GE's CF6 engines have been among the most utilized and reliable in the industry. Powering more than 10 models of wide-body aircraft, the engine has established an unparalleled record of reliability and compiled more than 320 million flight-hours in service with more than 250 customers worldwide.

GE remains committed to the CF6-80E1 engine and continues to invest in technology improvements for the engine. These advancements, along with proactive maintenance and operational procedures, have significantly increased the engine's time on wing in the last four years.

This year, the CF6-80E1 engine began incorporating the advanced technology from the Tech CF6 program on production engines. The new improved technology includes high pressure turbine airfoil advancements that enhance operational reliability, lower maintenance costs and improve fuel burn retention.

Carlo Toto, Air One President and Chairman, declared: "With the contract signed today with General Electric, we close the acquisition process of long-range aircraft that will allow Air One to significantly develop its intercontinental network. We are satisfied of having selected the GE engines because they provide great efficient performances in full respect of the environment. Air One has already inaugurated its first intercontinental flights and, thanks also to this agreement, will continue to implement its development plan of the long-haul routes."

"GE Aviation is very pleased that Air One has selected the CF6-80E1 to power its new fleet of A330 aircraft and selected GE Aviation to maintain and overhaul these engines," said Jack Lutze, vice president of sales for GE Aviation's Western Europe and Africa region. "The CF6-80E1 engine provides the best fuel efficiency and overall low cost of ownership for Air One's new A330 fleet. We look forward to continuing to build on our strong relationship with Air One for many years to come."
