EVA Places $150 Million CF6-80E1 Order

March 19, 2001

EVENDALE, OHIO - EVA Air of Taiwan has announced that it will acquire eight new Airbus Industrie A330-200 aircraft powered by GE's CF6-80E1 engines as part of the airline's fleet renewal and expansion program. The value of the engine order is $150 million. The aircraft acquisition is pending approval from Taiwan's Civil Aviation Authority, but the first A330 is scheduled for delivery in March 2003.EVA Air is a long-time GE customer, operating a fleet of 36 CF6-80C2-powered Boeing 747s, 767s, and MD-11s. The airline is also scheduled to receive two additional 747s, one in 2001 and the second in 2002.In June 2000, EVA Air signed an agreement to purchase GE90 engines to power 15 advanced, long-range Boeing 777s. These aircraft are scheduled to begin delivery in July 2005.The CF6-80E1 engines that will power EVA Air's A330s will be the CF6-80E1A3. This newest CF6-80E1 will have higher thrust than the current -80E, made possible by the incorporation of new materials in the turbine. The high and low pressure turbines will have common rotor structure with modifications to accommodate the appropriate levels of cooling flow for the different engine models. The engines will also incorporate the three-dimensional aerodynamic (3-D aero) technology developed for the GE90 compressor. This new compressor will provide additional exhaust gas temperature margin, increasing potential thrust and providing longer time on wing.
