October 01, 1998

EVENDALE, Ohio - Lufthansa Cargo has selected the GE CF6-80C2 engine to power six Boeing MD-11 trijet freighters in an engine order valued at more than $150 million.

Among the world's leading air freight providers, Lufthansa Cargo has ordered 14 MD-11 freighters since 1996 with the CF6-80C2. In addition, Lufthansa Airlines, also based in Frankfurt, Germany, is one of the world's largest operators of CF6-80C2 engines, with 48 widebody aircraft powered by the best-selling engine.

Deliveries of the six new cargo aircraft are scheduled to begin in 2000 and continue through 2001.

"We are very proud to support Lufthansa Cargo's expanding fleet," said Klaus Huber, sales director for Central Europe for GE Aircraft Engines. "The CF6-80C2 has maintained a strong presence in Lufthansa's overall operations, and we are most pleased that the engine has contributed to Lufthansa's traditionally strong return on assets."

In its 27 years of service, the CF6 family of engines has achieved remarkable levels of reliability while accumulating almost 200 million flight hours in the fleet of more than 150 customers worldwide.
