LE BOURGET -- LAN Airlines has selected GE's CF6-80C2 engines to power its 14 firm Boeing 767 aircraft with option for an additional four aircraft. The firm engine order is valued at more than $400 million (USD) list price. Deliveries will begin later this year.

"This order demonstrates the trust LAN Airlines has in GE's CF6 engine family, which has accumulated more flight-hours than any other high bypass engine family."

The CF6-80C2 engine celebrated 25 years of service last year with more than 3,800 engines delivered. GE's best-selling widebody engine, the CF6-80C2 engine set a GE record for the longest running commercial engine production line. The engine has accumulated more than 173 million flight hours and 40 million cycles, which is equivalent to 380,000 trips to the moon.
The CF6-80C2 engine incorporates the Tech CF6 program, which consists of advanced airfoil cooling technology into the high-pressure turbine (HPT). This is standard on all CF6-80C2 production engines.
