Lufthansa Cargo Selects GE CF6-80C2 Engines For New MD-11F Aircraft

FARNBOROUGH - GE CF6-80C2D1F engines have been selected to power the five firm and seven option McDonnell Douglas MD-11F freighters ordered by Lufthansa Cargo.

The value of the engine order for the firm aircraft is approximately $150 million; the potential value of the engine order, including options, exceeds $350 million.

Delivery of the five firm aircraft will begin in June 1998 and be completed by the end of the year. The option aircraft would be delivered beginning in 2000 and continuing through 2001.

Lufthansa, the largest cargo service of any passenger airline in the world, currently operates a fleet of 15 cargo aircraft, including CF6-powered 747s and DC-8s powered by CFM56-2 engines manufactured by CFM International, a 50/50 joint company of Snecma of France and GE.
