Nippon Cargo Airlines Orders GE CF6 Engines to Power Boeing 747 Aircraft

August 30, 2005

EVENDALE, OHIO - Nippon Cargo Airlines (NCA) has selected GE CF6-80C2 engines to power four Boeing 747-400F aircraft. The engine deal is valued at more than $150 million. Aircraft delivery will begin in 2007.

Since its inaugural flight between Japan and the U.S. in 1985, NCA has been the only air-cargo-transport company in Japan. The company has steadily increased its number of aircraft and enhanced its transport performance.

The NCA fleet, which currently includes eleven 747 classic freighters powered by CF6-50 engines and two 747-400F aircraft powered by CF6-80C2 engines, will add a total of six more 747-400F aircraft--the four just announced plus two ordered in 2003, all powered by CF6-80C2 engines.

GE's CF6 engine family has been the most reliable and best-selling commercial engine on wide-body aircraft. CF6 engines have flown more than 115 million hours, which is more than any other high-bypass turbofan engine family. The engine powers more than 10 models of wide-body aircraft. In recent years, the engine family has also played a major role in military aviation, powering transports, tankers and surveillance aircraft.

GE Transportation, part of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), is one of the world's leading manufacturers of jet engines for civil and military aircraft, including engines produced by CFM International, a 50/50 joint company of Snecma and GE. In addition, GE provides comprehensive maintenance support, through its Engine Services operation, for GE and non-GE jet engines in service throughout the world.
