GE Aviation and Leonardo today signed a partnership Memorandum of Understanding to continue developing and implementing digital transformation across Leonardo’s operations in the UK and to jointly develop digital products to open new business opportunities. GE Aviation’s digital services offering, Digital Works, embeds GE experts within the customer team to help plan, build and accelerate digital transformation.
“Our relationship with Leonardo started through a design challenge with our expert services, or Digital Works team, enabling the two companies to define a problem set and start providing rapid solutions from our comprehensive suite of digital products,” said John Mansfield, chief digital officer for GE Aviation. “Our partnership builds on Leonardo’s strength in the support business, and GE’s experts and IP to develop new products which we can both take to market.”
The key objectives for the partnership are to improve business performance and reduce costs by developing digital tools and a digitized support environment to enhance the way Leonardo manage availability of their contracted fleet. Leveraging GE Aviation IP and jointly developing new tools will drive business growth for both organizations.
“Leonardo is always looking for ways to provide the highest level of service to our customers. This collaboration aims to exploit some of GE Aviation’s digital innovation to improve our availability contract offering as well as other aspects of our support business,” said Wayne Clifton, SVP Support and Service Solutions UK at Leonardo.
Leonardo and GE Aviation started working together using design thinking methodology supported by expert services to truly understand the challenges across the entire vendor chain. Work is taking place at a number of Leonardo and GE Aviation sites mainly in the UK and Europe.
GE’s engagement with Leonardo is another instance of the trust airlines, lessors, MRO operators, military and OEMs have placed in GE Aviation’s Digital Works for their digital transformation journeys.
Leonardo, a global high-technology company, is among the top ten world players in Aerospace, Defence and Security and Italy’s main industrial company. Organized into five business divisions, Leonardo has a significant industrial presence in Italy, the United Kingdom, Poland and the USA, where it also operates through subsidiaries such as Leonardo DRS (defense electronics), and joint ventures and partnerships: ATR, MBDA, Telespazio, Thales Alenia Space and Avio. Leonardo competes in the most important international markets by leveraging its areas of technological and product leadership (Helicopters, Aircraft, Aerostructures, Electronics, Cyber Security and Space). Listed on the Milan Stock Exchange (LDO), in 2018 Leonardo recorded consolidated revenues of €12.2 billion and invested €1.4 billion in Research and Development. The Group has been part of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index since 2010. www.leonardo-company.com
