FARNBOROUGH, England - Alan Mulally, president of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, hosted a celebration today to honor Boeing 777 Longer-Range launch customers. Five major customers have now placed a total of 39 orders and commitments for the 777 Longer-Range airplanes. Attending the celebration were executives from All Nippon Airways (ANA), EVA Airways, GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS), International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC), and Japan Airlines (JAL).Adding to the celebratory mood, ANA announced its order for six 777-300 Longer-Range airplanes. Monday at the Farnborough Air Show, GE Capital Aviation Services and International Lease Finance Corporation - two leading leasing companies in the industry - announced potential orders for a mix of 10 and eight 777-200 and -300 Longer-Range airplanes, respectively. The final quantities of each model will be chosen by the lessors at a later date.Japan Airlines and EVA Airways orders for the 777 Longer-Range family members were announced earlier this year."I am proud of the reception that the longer-range 777-200 and -300 have received from our customers and friends in the commercial airplane industry," said Mulally. The Boeing 777 has captured 66 percent of the total market share in its class. As the most technologically-advanced airplane in the industry, the Boeing 777 is unmatched in economics and range, providing its operators unlimited opportunities. The 777 also sets a new level of comfort and spaciousness for air travel with its passenger pleasing and award-winning interior. With faster speed as compared to its competitors, the 777 also allows its operators to shorten trip times for their passengers. There are two models of 777 Longer-Range airplanes, the 777-200 model that will carry 301 passengers 8,860 nautical miles (16,405 km) and the 777-300 model that will carry 365 passengers 7,200 nautical miles (13,330 km). Enhancing the features of the current 777s, the 777 Longer-Range family members will fly farther and open new destinations. The longer-range 777-200 derivative will be the world's longest-range commercial airplane, flying long-range routes such as New York to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and carrying 51,590 gallons of fuel. The longer-range 777-300 model will be capable of routes such as Paris to Los Angeles, with a fuel capacity of 47,890 gallons, providing increased capability for more non-stop, point-to-point service. The new airplanes will be powered by a high-thrust derivative of the General Electric GE90 engine that is offered on existing 777s. The engine will provide 115,000 lbs. of thrust.
