Cathay Pacific Airways Places GE90 Engine Order, Signs 20-Year OnPointSM Services Agreement

EVENDALE, Ohio - Cathay Pacific Airways has made commitments to acquire 16 GE90-115B powered Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. The airline, which will lease four of the aircraft, will take delivery between 2007 and 2012. 

Cathay Pacific also signed a 20-year OnPointSM Solutions service agreement with GE Engine Services for the maintenance and overhaul of all 32 GE90-115B engines. 

Cathay Pacific is one of the pre-eminent airlines in the world and has long been noted for both the technical excellence of its fleet and its world-class service. In November 2005, the airline was awarded the titles of "Asia's Leading Airline," "Asia's Leading Business Class Airline," and "World's Leading Use of In-flight Technology" as a result of the World Travel Awards annual poll of travel industry professionals. 

The GE90-115B is certified at an unprecedented 115,000 pounds (512 kN) thrust and serves as the powerplant for Boeing's 777-300ER, 777-200LR, and the upcoming 777 freighter targeted for entry into service in 2008. More than 225 GE90 engines have been ordered in 2005.

Snecma of France, Avio SpA. of Italy, and IHI of Japan are revenue-sharing participants in the GE90 program.
