EVA Orders GE90-Powered Boeing 777-300ER Aircraft

May 08, 2012

TAIPEI -- EVA Airways has ordered seven GE90-115B-powered Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, with four aircraft leased from GECAS and three purchased from Boeing. The engines are valued at $250 million (USD) list price. Delivery will begin in 2014.

"EVA Airways currently operates 15 GE90-powered Boeing 777-300ERs, and they have demonstrated outstanding fuel burn, performance and reliability," said K.W. Chang, President of EVA Airways. "The additional aircraft will help us further expand our fleet to manage our growing route schedule."

"EVA has embraced our engines and selected GE engines to power its entire wide-body fleet. We are also partners in a very successful service shop in Taipei," said Kevin McAllister, vice president and general manager of Global Sales at GE Aviation. "This order is an affirmation of the airline's faith in our engine technologies. We look forward to ensuring the GE90 engines provide outstanding performance to EVA and its customers."

EVA Airways began operation in 1991 and has become one of the fastest growing airlines in Asia. With an extensive fleet of 59 aircraft, EVA operates passenger and cargo routes to 62 cities around the world.

At 115,000 pounds of thrust, the GE90-115B engine includes such performance-enhancing features as three-dimensional aerodynamic (3-D aero) compressor and wide-chord, swept composite fan blades for greater efficiency. The dual annular combustor emits no more than 40 percent of the hydrocarbons allowed by today's international standards.

The engine line recently celebrated the delivery of 1000th GE90-115B engine to Boeing. More than 1,500 GE90-115B engines have been ordered by customers for their Boeing 777-300ERs, 777-200LRs and 777 Freighters. In 2011, the GE90 engine experienced its most successful year and accumulated airline and freighter operator commitments for 400 engines. This surpassed the 2007 record of 250 engine commitments in a year.

Snecma of France, Avio SpA of Italy and IHI Corporation of Japan are revenue-sharing participants in the GE90 program.

The GE90-115B engine is part of GE's "ecomagination" product portfolio -- GE's commitment to implementing innovative, cost-effective technologies that enhance the customers' environmental and operating performance.
