GE Aviation and ST Aerospace Prepare for GEnx On Wing Support

June 15, 2009

LE BOURGET -- GE Aviation and ST Aerospace are preparing On Wing Support services for the GEnx engine, which is the fastest selling large jet engine in GE's history.

Earlier this year, GE and ST Aerospace signed a 20-year agreement that allows ST Aerospace's subsidiary, STA Engines, to serve as a GE-approved On-Wing Support provider for the GEnx-1B and GEnx-2B engines.

"GE Aviation and ST Aerospace are assembling the necessary tooling and equipment for the GEnx engine to ensure we are ready with 24/7 response to meet our global customers' on wing support needs when the engine enters service," said Tom Gentile, vice president and general manager of GE Aviation's Services organization.

"ST Aerospace is pleased to extend the reach of our global MRO network to meet the on wing support of the GEnx engine. This is another extension of our collaboration with GE and in line with our direction to work closely with original equipment manufacturers and airline partners," said Tay Kok Khiang, president of ST Aerospace.

As a GE-approved GEnx On-Wing Support provider, ST Aerospace will offer GEnx-1B and -2B on-wing support services utilising GE material and GE-approved repair processes for customers all over the world from its facilities in Singapore and the US. Under the agreement, GE will provide ST Aerospace with technical support, including training, technical manuals and equipment. In addition, ST Aerospace will have access to GEnx engineering support, ensuring leading edge technology for ST Aerospace's maintenance process and providing GEnx operators with the highest standards in on wing support.

As part of its support for the OEM solution, ST Aerospace would invest in the set up of capabilities for the on-wing support, leveraging its global maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) network and close relationships with many airlines that have ordered GEnx-powered aircraft.

GEnx engines will power the Boeing 747-8 and 787 aircraft. More than 1,100 GEnx engines sold to date. IHI of Japan, Avio SpA. of Italy, Volvo Aero of Sweden, MTU of Germany, TechSpace Aero of Belgium, Snecma (SAFRAN Group) of France and Samsung Techwin of Korea are revenue-sharing participants in the GEnx program.

The GEnx is part of GE's "ecomagination" product portfolio-GE's commitment to develop new, cost-effective technologies that enhance customers' environmental and operating performance. You can learn more about the GEnx engine by clicking this link: http://www.ge.com/news/genx_video.html.
