Uzbekistan Airways Selects GEnx Engine to Power its Boeing 787 Aircraft

October 11, 2007

Tashkent, Uzbekistan -- Uzbekistan Airways has selected GEnx engines to power its two Boeing 787-8 aircraft. The firm engine order is valued at more than $70 million (USD).

"We hope that our cooperation with General Electric Company will be beyond just purchasing the engines and will develop in the other areas mutually beneficial for both companies," said Valeriy Tyan, General Director of Uzbekistan Airways.

"We're very pleased that Uzbekistan Airways has selected the GEnx engine for its new fleet," said Muhammad Al-Lamadani, GE Aviation pole general manager for the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Commonwealth of Independent States (former Soviet Union). "We are confident that the reliability, durability, and outstanding GE customer support services are going to be very beneficial to Uzbekistan Airways during the operation of the GEnx engines."

Uzbekistan Airways is the leading carrier in the Central Asia region and operates scheduled flights to more than 40 cities around the world, including America, Europe, Middle East, Southeast and Central Asia.

Based on the highly successful GE90 architecture, the GEnx engine is one of the most fuel-efficient and lowest emissions jet engines ever. The GEnx engine will power both the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and the 747-8 Intercontinental. It will succeed GE's CF6 family, the best-selling engine on wide-body aircraft. More than 1,000 GEnx engines have been sold to 33 customers, making it the fastest-selling large engine in GE Aviation history.

The GEnx completed its flight test program this summer on GE's 747 flying test-bed, which validated the GEnx-1B engine's performance in real world flight conditions. Certification tests for vibration, emission, bird ingestions and fan blade containment were also completed with very positive results.

The GEnx is part of GE's "ecomagination" product portfolio--GE's commitment to develop new, cost-effective technologies that enhance customers' environmental and operating performance. The GEnx's composite and combustion technologies are unique to the commercial aviation industry.

IHI of Japan, TechSpace Aero of Belgium, Avio SpA. of Italy, Volvo Aero of Sweden and Samsung Techwin of Korea are revenue-sharing participants in the GEnx program.

GE Aviation, an operating unit of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), is a world-leading provider of commercial and military jet engines and components as well as integrated digital, electric power, and mechanical systems for aircraft.
