November 01, 2016

Zhuhai, China -- Xiamen Airlines signed an agreement with GE Aviation here today at Airshow China 2016 to select GEnx-1B engine to power its additional six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. Xiamen Airlines also expanded a TrueChoiceTM Material agreement for the new GEnx-1B fleet for the new and used material and advance repairs needed for engine maintenance, repair and overhaul services. The engine order and TrueChoice Material agreement are valued at more than $630 million (USD) at list price and over the life of the contract. Delivery of these aircraft will begin by year-end.

“We’ve been operating GEnx-1B engines since we first introduced the Boeing 787 Dreamliners into our fleet. The engines are operating very well with high efficiency, and GE Aviation has provided us with very good support and service for the product,” said Cai Chengbao, vice president of Xiamen Airlines. “The long-term material service from GE will help ensure the engines are maintained to OEM standards for the best performance and reliability to serve our customers.”

“We are so grateful Xiamen Airlines selected the GEnx engine for its expanded 787 Dreamliner fleet. This agreement fully demonstrates the airline’s trust in our products and services,” said Chaker Chahrour, vice president and general manager of Global Sales and Marketing at GE Aviation. (or Weiming Xiang, president of GE Aviation Greater China. “Now our job is to ensure the GEnx engine will continue bringing profitability to the airline and our material service agreement will keep the GEnx engines with highest quality for maintenance and overhaul so that they will perform in their top operational condition.”

More than 1,600 GEnx-1B engines have been sold to 51 customers. Compared to GE's CF6 engine, the GEnx engine offers up to 15 percent better fuel efficiency, which translates to 15 percent less CO2. The GEnx's innovative twin-annular pre-swirl (TAPS) combustor dramatically reduces NOx gases as much as 55 percent below today's regulatory limits and other regulated gases as much as 90 percent. Based on the ratio of decibels to pounds of thrust, the GEnx is the quietest engine GE produces due to the large, more efficient fan blades that operate at slower tip speed, resulting in about 40 percent lower noise levels.

The GEnx is part of GE's "ecomagination" product portfolio - GE's business strategy to develop new, cost-effective technologies that enhance customers' environmental and operating performance.

GEnx’s revenue-sharing participants are IHI Corporation of Japan, Volvo Aero of Sweden, MTU of Germany, TechSpace Aero (Safran) of Belgium, Safran Aircraft Engines of France and Samsung Techwin of Korea.
