GE Receives Order From FiatAvio For Two LM2500+ Gas Turbines For Cogeneration Plant

August 07, 1998

EVENDALE, OH - GE Industrial AeroDerivative Gas Turbines (GE-IAD) has received an order from FiatAvio S.p.A. and Fiat Engineering for two LM2500+ aeroderivative gas turbines. The units will be used in a combined-cycle cogeneration configuration at the Cogeneration Burgo plant in Avezzano, Italy. This will be the first project in Italy to use GE's LM2500+.

The LM2500+ gas turbines each will be rated at 29 megawatts, and will be equipped with GE's high speed power turbines (HSPT). Sixty percent of the electricity produced at the facility will used by Cartiere Burgo S.p.A.'s paper plant in Avezzano. The remaining 40% will be delivered through the grid of the national utility ENEL to two other Cartiere Burgo S.p.A. paper plants in Chieti and Sora, Italy. All of the steam will be used by the Cartiere Burgo S.p.A. plant in Avezzano for paper processing.

The LM2500+ gas turbines will be equipped with GE-IAD's Dry Low Emissions (DLE) combustion systems for NOx levels below 25 ppm.

The gas turbines were manufactured by GE-IAD at its Evendale, OH facility. The HSPTs were designed and manufactured for GE-IAD by Nuovo Pignone, Florence, Italy.

The LM2500+s were delivered to FiatAvio in June and will be placed into power generation packages by FiatAvio. Commercial operation of the power plant is slated for late March 2000.

GE-IAD's presence in Italy is strong: To date, more than 70 LM aeroderivative gas turbines are in operation in a variety of power generation schemes, with an additional 55 gas turbines in service or slated for use in commercial and military marine propulsion applications.

FiatAvio S.p.A. is a GE-IAD Original Equipment Manufacturer headquartered in Torino, Italy. To date, FiatAvio has sold and packaged 20 LM aeroderivative gas turbines for a variety of power generation applications worldwide.

GE-IAD is part of GE Power Systems, and is headquartered in Evendale, OH. GE-IAD is the world's largest designer, developer and manufacturer of aeroderivative gas turbines for a variety of power generation and gas compression applications.
