GE Supplies TSSI With DLE-Equipped LM2500+ Gas Turbine for EDF Cogeneration Plant

April 28, 1998

First LM in France...

EVENDALE, OH - GE Industrial AeroDerivatives (GE-IAD) has provided Thomassen Stewart & Stevenson International, B.V. (TSSI) with an LM2500+ aeroderivative gas turbine equipped with IAD's Dry Low Emissions (DLE) combustion system. This marks the first order for a GE LM gas turbine in France.

The LM2500+ will operate in base load, combined-cycle service at a cogeneration facility which is owned by SOGICO, a 50/50 joint venture of COGETHERM, a cogeneration arm of Electricite de France (EDF), and FINERGAZ, an arm of Gaz de France (GDF).

The cogeneration facility will be located at the synthetic rubber manufacturing plant owned by Michelin in Bassens (Bordeaux), France. The plant will provide up to 60 tons per hour of steam for process to the Michelin plant. Steam also will be used to power the small steam turbine as part of the combined-cycle scheme. All 29 megawatts of electricity generated will be supplied to EDF's grid.

The LM2500+ will be fueled by natural gas and will be fitted with GE-IAD's two-stage, high speed power turbine (HSPT). With the DLE combustion system in place, the LM2500+ will meet or exceed NOx emissions levels required by the site.

The LM2500+ was manufactured by GE-IAD at its Evendale, OH facility. The unit was sold and placed into a power generation package by TSSI in Rheden, The Netherlands. The HSPT was designed and manufactured for GE-IAD by Nuovo Pignone, Florence, Italy.

The LM2500+ was delivered to the Bassens site in late April 1998, and is expected to begin commercial operation in September 1998. To date, GE-IAD and its international network of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) have received orders for 37 LM2500+ gas turbines or gas generators for various power generation and compressor drive applications worldwide.

TSSI, a GE-IAD OEM, is headquartered in Rheden. TSSI has supplied 32 LM gas turbines for a variety of power generation applications.

GE-IAD is part of GE Power Systems, and is headquartered in Evendale, OH. GE-IAD is the world's largest designer, developer and manufacturer of aeroderivative gas turbines for a variety of power generation and gas compression applications.
