GE-Lynn Earns Coveted VPP STAR Status

March 11, 2015

LYNN, MASS.—February 20, 2015 – GE Aviation in Lynn was recently awarded the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) top workplace recognition for its commitment to employee health and safety.

GE-Lynn has been recertified as a Star site under the Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). VPP, OSHA’s premiere recognition program, recognizes employers and employees who work together in partnership with OSHA to provide a level of safety and health protection that goes well beyond minimum OSHA standards.

This awarding comes as the result of an intense two-week audit that took place in 2014 where GE worked closely with OSHA personnel to fully evaluate health and safety at the site. Star status signifies that a business demonstrates injury/illness rates that are at or below the national averages for their industries. GE-Lynn first earned VPP Star in 2006, was recertified in 2009 and again in 2014.

“Several programs have been enhanced and a significant investment has been made to increase safety and health awareness at the site,” OSHA Acting Regional Administrator Greg Baxter wrote in a letter to GE. “The company has maintained injury rates substantially below the BLS rates for their industry. The overall safety and health program management system at this site remains excellent. Therefore, I have approved GE Aviation in Lynn for continued participation in the VPP as a Star site for five years.”

“This is a terrific accomplishment for our plant, one that we worked hard at to achieve,” said GE Area Executive Mike Sims. “This is only possible due to the strong level of commitment and cooperation from our unions and salaried workforce. Nothing is more important than employee safety. We are committed to raising the bar even higher.”
