The "New" Air Jamaica Selects CFM56-5B4 Engines for Airbus Industrie A320 Aircraft

October 5, 1995

EVENDALE, Ohio - In an engine order valued at more than $25 million, newly privatized Air Jamaica Ltd. has selected CFM56-5B4 engines to power two Airbus A320 aircraft that it will add to its fleet in October 1996 as part of its ongoing fleet modernization program.

CFM56-5 engines are produced by CFM International (CFMI), a 50/50 joint company of General Electric of the United States and Snecma of France.

Air Jamaica, a new CFMI customer headquartered in Montego Bay, Jamaica, intends to fly the A320s on routes from Jamaica to destinations in the Caribbean and the United States.

The CFM56 family of engines is the market leader among commercial aircraft engines, powering the majority of large commercial aircraft ordered in 1994 and 1995. Approximately 7,000 CFM56 engines are in service, on order, or committed with nearly 200 customers in 76 countries throughout the world. In the case of the Airbus A320 specifically, CFM56-5 engines power 60 percent of the aircraft ordered to date.
