GE Completes Acquisition of BMB Fuel

January 04, 2010

EVENDALE, OH -- GE Aviation has completed the acquisition of BMB Fuel Consulting Services, Inc. (BMB Fuel), a privately owned, Ottawa-based supplier of fuel consulting services used primarily to identify and track operational improvements for airlines that reduce fuel consumption. BMB Fuel's expertise and fuel management software broaden GE's existing fuel and carbon offerings to aviation customers.

Fuel typically accounts for more than 30% of an airline's expenses, and with volatility in fuel prices over the last two years, airlines are looking for ways to manage this major portion of their cost base more effectively. BMB Fuel brings GE Aviation capabilities that will enable a comprehensive fuel and carbon consulting service. Using BMB Fuel's unique Aviation Fuel Decision SupportSM software platform, GE Aviation will help customers address fuel conservation, on-time performance, and carbon compliance reporting and monitoring by integrating aircraft data, flight operations and flight planning information, and other key operational elements. This solution will help identify and prioritize strategic opportunities, monitor progress and track results.

"GE Aviation's customers will truly benefit from GE's fuel and carbon services enabled by BMB Fuel's capabilities," said Tom Gentile, President & Chief Executive Officer of GE Aviation Services. "Integrating this team with GE Aviation's flight operations, systems and engineering teams will enable us to identify fuel savings on a single, integrated platform and work together with airlines to develop innovative solutions."

"With the growing interest in Software as a Service applications, our Fuel Decision Support platform will help drive strategic growth for GE Aviation," said Bob Kelland, President and Chief Executive Officer of BMB Fuel. "We are proud to be joining GE Aviation, which has a heritage of the highest standards of quality, efficiency and customer support."

BMB Fuel has developed a fuel decision support solution and service that enables airlines, civil aviation authorities, military organizations and other large consumers of fuel to manage fuel supply, conservation and handling. BMB Fuel's capabilities will be integrated into GE's fuel services program and will focus on helping customers reduce their cost of ownership, fuel consumption, and emissions. This integrated program, led by GE Aviation's Services organization, will combine GE's technical expertise in flight operations with its engine and aircraft systems technologies to identify and provide cost saving opportunities, as well as validate the cost saving programs implemented.

GE Aviation, an operating unit of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), is a world-leading provider of commercial and military jet engines and components as well as avionics, electric power, and mechanical systems for aircraft. GE Aviation also has a global service network to support these offerings.
