GE Engine Services Enters $1 Billion Agreement With Continental Airlines

EVENDALE, Ohio - GE Engine Services Inc., the world leader in total aviation services, has signed a multi-year agreement to maintain and overhaul engines of Continental Airlines in an agreement valued at as much as $1 billion.

This 10-year contract will cover these five engine models that power a portion of Continental's aircraft fleet:

 

  • CFM56-3 (Boeing 737-300)
  • CFM56-7 (Boeing 737-700/-800/-900)
  • CF6-6 (McDonnell Douglas DC-10-10)
  • CF6-50 (McDonnell Douglas DC-10-30)
  • CF6-80 (Boeing 767-200/-300)

The CFM56 engine work will be performed at GE Engine Services' Strother facility, which is located near Arkansas City, Kansas. The CF6 will be maintained at GE Engine Services' Prestwick, Scotland, affiliate, GE Caledonian Ltd.

GE Engine Services had a record-setting year of more than $3.6 billion in orders in 1997, which represents a $1.0 billion, or 38 percent, order increase over 1996. Also in 1997, GE Engine Services won multi-year maintenance and overhaul contracts worth more than $6 billion, representing an increase of more than 45 percent over 1996.

With headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, GE Engine Services provides comprehensive overhaul and repair of aircraft engines, components, and accessories of GE Aircraft Engines and of CFM International, the 50/50 joint company of Snecma of France and General Electric Company of the United States, as well as engines produced by other manufacturers. Besides the Strother and Prestwick shops, GE Engine Services has overhaul and repair facilities located at: Nantgarw, Wales; Singapore; Ontario, California; Miami, Florida; Fort Worth/Dallas, Texas; Petropolis, Brazil; Cincinnati, Ohio; and six Garrett Aviation Services locations.
