GE Wins Maintenance Contract With Northland Power For Two LM6000s At Canadian IPP Power Plant
ORLANDO, FL - GE Marine & Industrial Engines (M&I) won a contract to provide maintenance services to Northland Power, Toronto, Canada. The six-year contract covers two LM6000 aeroderivative gas turbine-generators at Northland Power's Iroquois Falls Heat & Power Station in Iroquois Falls, Ontario. The contract covers all parts, labor, inspections and all depot maintenance both scheduled and unscheduled.
"Northland Power and M&I have a successful maintenance relationship together that started in 1995," said Fred Brown, executive vice president of Northland Power. "We contracted with M&I for maintenance services on five LM2500 gas turbines at our Cochrane Generating Station and Kirkland Lake plants, which are both in Ontario. Because we believe so strongly in the combined performance package of M&I's maintenance contract with M&I engines and the lease program, we decided to have them handle the power generation equipment at the Iroquois Falls plant," Brown added.
To date, there are 126 LM gas turbines in operation in Canada in a variety of power generation and compressor drive applications. Out of these units, Northland Power has seven LM gas turbines.
Northland Power is a pioneer and one of Canada's leading independent power producers (IPP). The Iroquois Falls Heat & Power Station is the largest cogeneration plant in Canada. This combined-cycle cogeneration facility sells up to 300,000 pounds/hour of steam to the Abitibi-Price paper mill, and sells up to 112 megawatts of electricity to Ontario Hydro, the provincial utility.
Power was first exported from the facility in July 1996. The gas turbines were sold by GE Power Systems (GEPS), Schenectady, NY. GEPS also provided the 32-megawatt steam turbine for the project. The 40-megawatt LM6000s were manufactured by M&I at its Evendale, OH facility. The gas turbines were packaged by Stewart & Stevenson International, Inc., Houston, TX.
M&I offers a wide range of LM Service Products which are designed to provide customers with the greatest possible return on engine investment. These LM Service Products include maintenance agreements, a service exchange program, rotable engine maintenance units, upgrade kits, and a lease engine program.
GE M&I is part of GE Aircraft Engines and is headquartered in Evendale. M&I is the world's largest designer, developer and manufacturer of aeroderivative gas turbines for a variety of power generation, gas compression and commercial and military marine propulsion applications.
