GEnx TRUEngine Program Launches with Air India's GEnx-1B Engine Fleet

June 20, 2011

LE BOURGET -- GE Aviation has launched its GEnx TRUEngineTM program on the GEnx-1B engine and granted TRUEngine designation to Air India's GEnx-1B engine fleet. Air India has ordered GEnx-1B engines for its 27 Boeing 787-8 aircraft.

Under a 2010 GE Branded Services Agreement (GBSA), Air India will be licensed to perform maintenance and overhaul work on the GEnx-1B engine, which means the carrier will follow GE-issued engine manuals, service bulletins and other maintenance recommendations.

"While GEnx engines qualify for TRUEngine designation when they are shipped to the customer for entry into service, this TRUEngine designation demonstrates Air India's commitment to quality maintenance on its engine fleet," said Bill Fitzgerald, vice president and general manager of the GEnx engine program.

Qualification for TRUEngine status is a two-step process that includes the customer declaration and a submittal of maintenance records to ensure the overhaul practices, spare parts and repairs used to service an engine are consistent with GE-issued engine manuals, service bulletins and other maintenance recommendations. The TRUEngine designation is available for the more than 1,300 GEnx engines on order.

Commercial jet engines typically are in service for more than 25 years and change ownership at least once during their operational life. The engine's material content, maintenance history and supportability impact marketability and overall value as ownership changes. The GEnx TRUEngine designation enhances marketability and asset valuation of an engine as well as provides operators with new benefits, such as line maintenance and aircraft-on-ground responsiveness guarantees, life-limited parts scrap-for-cause warranty option, myEnginesTM TRUEngine suite of digital fleet management applications and a content assurance guarantee.

GE Aviation, an operating unit of GE (NYSE: GE), is a world-leading provider of jet and turboprop engines, components and integrated systems for commercial, military, business and general aviation aircraft. GE Aviation has a global service network to support these offerings.
