GE's Services Solutions Expands Its Portfolio

June 20, 2011

LE BOURGET -- GE Aviation's Services organization has taken its customer offerings to a new level with its Services Solutions portfolio of offerings, which include myEnginesTM, Fuel & Carbon Solutions and ClearCoreTM engine wash system. These offerings can help customers better manage their fleets, improve productivity, reduce their operational costs, extend their engines' time on wing and other additional benefits.

"GE Aviation wants to provide its customers with additional value-added offerings that go beyond MRO and material," said Huntley Myrie, Services Solutions manager for GE Aviation. "Services Solutions portfolio helps customers solve problems that they may have related to data overload, rising fuel costs and environmental concerns. As GE develops new product offerings, we'll continue to expand Services Solutions to meet our customers' needs."

myEngines

GE launched myEngines, which consists of digital applications suites to help customers better manage their engine fleets and improve productivity, with LAN Chile at the 2010 Farnborough Air Show. Since that time, GE has increased the number of customers using the application to 10 and has expanded myEngines to a total of eight application suites.

The eight application suites include:

- Overhaul: Track engines through the overhaul process with instant access to reports, data and findings; interaction with GE technical experts on workscope; and real-time delivery status and updates to help optimize fleet planning.

- Health: Monitor, trend and analyze critical engine parameters to better manage operating costs; and review and acknowledge health reports and notifications.

- Config: Access engine configurations to help manage service bulletins and airworthiness directives.

- Ops: Manage fleet performance, cost and aircraft/spare engine availability.

- Material: Research and order urgently required new material and track delivery status online to minimize delays in response to critical needs.

- Fleet: Enables quick access to shop visit and health information for both engines and aircraft.

- Fuel: Access to fuel burn and carbon emissions information and annual trends for a specific aircraft or an entire fleet.

- TRUEngine: Manage the OEM-configured engines enrolled in the GEnx TRUEngineTMprogram and use GE's CTEC University digital training aids.

myEngines can operate on a variety of smart phones as well as laptops and desktop computer systems.

Fuel & Carbon Solutions

Last year, GE Aviation also launched its Fuel & Carbon Solutions to help aircraft owners and operators reduce their overall cost of ownership. Fuel typically accounts for about 30 percent of an airline's expenses. With continued volatility in fuel prices, airlines are looking for ways to manage this major portion of their cost base more effectively. Fuel & Carbon Solutions is one way for GE to work with its customers and develop effective fuel management solutions.

Part of GE's ecomagination portfolio, Fuel & Carbon Solutions deliver results through a three-step process:

- Operational evaluation: Identify and collect data on the airline's current fuel and carbon reduction programs, and quantify where the customer is today.

- Customized solution design: Further analyze data to isolate and prioritize potential improvements.

- Implementation support and verification: Work with customers to implement changes, and then measure and validate savings.

Using proprietary decision software and fuel-consulting expertise, GE's Fuel & Carbon Solutions will work with customers to identify and track operational improvements that could reduce the airline's fuel spend by an average of three percent on given segments. GOL Airlines was the launch customer for Fuel & Carbon Solutions last year. Alitalia signed an agreement for the program in February.

ClearCore

GE's newly released ClearCore engine wash system is an on-wing engine wash and effluent collection system that will help customers with their fuel conservation efforts and reduce their operating cost. ClearCore was launched at TUIfly this year.

An engine's performance deteriorates over time due to mechanical wear and environmental contamination, such as dust and sand. The deterioration caused by these environmental factors can be lessened with ClearCore. While the amount of performance recovered can vary based on operating conditions and wash interval cycle, customers who use ClearCore can see an improvement in the exhaust gas temperature (EGT), specific fuel consumption and time on-wing. To maximize the benefits, GE utilizes its diagnostic technology to determine the optimal wash interval for the ClearCore engine wash system. Diagnostics is also used after a wash to determine the effectiveness of the process.

ClearCore provides a full effluent capture system, which allows the engines to be washed at the gate or in the hangar. The water collected from the wash is microfiltered and can be reused. An integrated vacuum system eliminates water pooling. Customers can purchase a full-service package with GE providing the washes or can choose to purchase the equipment only. The water collection system can be used with existing front-end washing systems.

GE Aviation, an operating unit of GE (NYSE: GE), is a world-leading provider of jet and turboprop engines, components and integrated systems for commercial, military, business and general aviation aircraft. GE Aviation has a global service network to support these offerings.
